A very composed performance

Dr. Daniel Immel, Professor of Music at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, will perform a solo piano recital at Newport’s Pacific Maritime Heritage Center this Friday, April 26.

Immel is fast developing an Oregon Coast following. This performance, presented by the Lincoln County Oregon Music Teachers Association, is his third in Lincoln County.

“Immel is a fantastic performer and always has extremely interesting and varied programs,” association member Cathy Champion-Predmore said. “His piano skills are phenomenal and his easy and personable demeanor onstage makes any recital an enjoyable experience. You will never be bored and you will surely hear some music you have never heard before.”

This year’s program will include 12 Variations on “Folie d’Espagne” by Bach followed by contemporary pieces “Gargoyles Op. 29” by Lowell Lieberman, three selections from “The Piano’s 12 Sides” by Carter Pann and “Achilles” by Turkish pianist and composer Fazil Say. To balance these contemporary adventures, Immel will perform “Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Op. 42” by the great Romantic composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff. For a finale he will perform “The Serpent’s Kiss” by William Bolcom, a piece known for its dramatic shifts in tempo and texture which will display all of his virtuosic skill.

Immel has international credentials including degrees from Boise State University, Indiana University and the University of Texas at Austin. He received a diploma from the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France. He has performed in the US, Europe, Canada and Russia and at venues including Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center.

“Lincoln County is fortunate to have a pianist with top credentials performing in our community at the beautiful Doerfler Theater,” said OMTA Co-President Jessica Treon. “You won’t want to miss this fantastic concert.”

The concert begins at 7 pm at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center, located at 333 SE Bay Street in Newport. The concert is free, but donations are welcome. For more information, go to omta-lincolncounty.org or call 541-270-4814.
