Chamber Music on the Bayfront

Enjoy seldom-heard masterpieces for chamber ensembles against the breathtaking backdrop of Yaquina Bay when the Newport Symphony Orchestra presents a chamber concert at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center this Saturday, April 13.

The performance, in the Doerfler Family Theater, will feature five Newport Symphony musicians: Pablo Izquierdo, oboe; Colleen White, clarinet; Adam Farmer, bassoon; Margarite Waddell, horn; and Diane Baxter, piano.

The Chamber Music on the Bayfront series was spearheaded by Maestro Adam Flatt to treat audiences to the joy of a more intimate and casual performance space to hear music that is less often performed due to the virtuosic skill that it requires.

The program will begin with a lighthearted and whimsical duet “The Confessions of a Clarinet Player” for clarinet and horn by Charles Koechlin, followed by the upbeat and intricate “Sonate champetre” for piano, oboe, clarinet and bassoon by Germaine Tailleferre. This delightful spring concert will conclude with Mozart’s sublime “Great Quintet K. 452” for piano and winds.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center, located at 333 SE Bay Blvd. in Newport. Tickets are $43.25. For more information, go to newportsymphony.org or call 541-265-2787.
