A performance with pluck

Newport Symphony Orchestra harpist Martha Griffith will pluck the final string of the current Musician’s Living Room series on Friday, March 12, with “The Seductive Sound of the Harp.”

Starting at 6:30 pm, this interactive, online evening will take participants into the living rooms of Griffith and NSO Conductor and Adam Flatt.

Griffith will share her fascinating collection of instruments, perform and share her story of life as a musician in Newport and beyond. An opportunity to converse with Griffith and Flatt will follow, as they welcome audiences into their homes and lives.

A third-generation professional harpist in Oregon, Griffith has been the NSO's principal harpist for many years. She holds a BA in music performance from University of Oregon, and an MS from Pacific University.

In addition to taking the audience into the complex workings of the modern and magnificent symphonic chromatic harp, she will demonstrate her unusual collection of other harps, sharing secrets of this magical instrument.

Tickets, $30, can be purchased by going to www.newportsymphony.org or calling 458-868-9155.
