2022: so far, sew good

Feel like you need more fiber? Well, you’re in luck as Lincoln City’s Chessman Gallery presents “Fiber in the MIX” opening this Friday, Jan. 14.

MIX is a Portland-based fiber-arts group whose members meet once a month to critique, challenge and encourage one another, while exploring the design principles of their craft and other art media.

“Fiber in the MIX” features work by Lynn Anderson, Kathy Blondell, Valri Chiappetta, Betty Daggett, Diane Losli-Britt, Annette McFarlane, Elaine Millar and Hilde Morin.

And you can mix with the artists and fellow art enthusiasts at the show’s opening reception on Friday from 5 to 7 pm, or view the virtual gallery tour posted to Facebook @lincolncityculture on Saturday, Jan. 15.

The MIX artists use a wide range of fiber art techniques such as surface design, dyeing, printing, painting, screen printing, stamping, embroidery, piecing and applique, including fusing, and quilting by hand and machine.

All designs are original and the group often works on an agreed-upon theme. Members bring various backgrounds and life experiences to the group and discussions at the monthly meetings are lively.

Five themes will be presented in this exhibit: “Extremes of Scrap, Stitching and Texture,” two sets of large works with the themes “As You See It…” and “What Goes Around…,” a group of small works with the theme “Just For Fun” and a series of black and white works using one additional color called “Black and White Plus One.”

Some of the artists will include 3-D works in the exhibit.

“Fiber in the MIX” runs through Feb. 28 at the Chessman Gallery, located inside the Lincoln City Cultural Center at 540 NE Hwy. 101 and open Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information, go to lincolncity-culturalcenter.org or call 541-994-9994.
