A big dust up in Toledo

Make your mark on Toledo at the inaugural Chalk the Block event this Saturday, July 16, open to children, families, amateur and professional artists, organizations, businesses, classes and scout troops. In other words, you don’t have to be a professional “artist” to participate.

Two sizes of sidewalk canvas are available: 3x3’ and 4x6’.

Chalk will be provided, and for those who are unable to get up and down off the sidewalk, a limited number of tables with craft paper will be available.

There is no cost to participate, though donations are welcome to keep the non-profit Art Revitalization of Toledo and the arts alive in the community.

Cash and non-cash prizes will be awarded in the following categories: up to 11 years of age; 12 to 18 years of age; adult and family/group.

Artwork must be suitable for family viewing and remain within the boundaries of the square or rectangle area. You may work alone or with an assistant. Parents are encouraged to participate. All children must be supervised by an adult.

Chalking will take place around Toledo’s City Hall on Main Street from 8 am to 2 pm. Public viewing of the results will be available from 2 to 4 pm, when a professional photographer will take pictures of the artwork.
