A bright idea

The elves at Explore Lincoln City are planning to make this year’s holiday lights celebration bigger and brighter than ever.

“We’ve seen a trend of more families celebrating winter holidays here,” ELC director Ed Dreistadt said. “We’re making a commitment to continually grow Lincoln City’s reputation as a winter wonderland of lights, food and fun.”

The major expansion will include doubling the number of lights on the Taft Dock and installing a 12-foot holiday tree. The City will also wrap solar powered lights around the Taft entry arch as well as utility poles along SW 51st Street and Highway 101.

In order to continue the lights displays through town, ELC is offering funds to encourage businesses and organizations to create more light displays.

For this first year, ELC will award $500 to 30 businesses and nonprofits to purchase lights. With Taft Dock as the anchor attraction, businesses along SW 51st Street and north along the highway can apply.

The long-term goal is to expand every year, going north until every Lincoln City district along the highway is included.  From there, side streets and other opportunities will be explored.

To apply for a one-time award to purchase lights for businesses located in the southern part of Lincoln City, email shull@lincolncity.org.
