A towering performance

Damn Tall Buildings are going up on the Yachats Commons stage this Sunday, Aug. 7, as the energetic bluegrass band brings an exciting show to the Central Coast.

Enjoy a big helping of bluegrass, served with a little punch, attitude, grit and gravy and then spiced with a busking spirit.

According to SavingCountryMusic.com, the band is “bluegrass at heart, but pulling from a wide range of influences including swing, ragtime, jazz and even a hint of contemporary perspective in their songwriting. They offer virtually unmatched energy and enthusiasm, underpinned by intelligent songs that don’t skimp on the infectiousness.”

A special performance by Portland-based musicians Brongaene Griffin and Cary Novotny will open the show.

A classically trained violinist, Griffin now prefers the fiddle, on which she plays every genre of music. After exploring bluegrass and old-time, she spent more than 10 years in Ireland busking and traveling the country to play dances, learning and listening to the great tune keepers and lore masters.

Novotny studied classical guitar in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he was also influenced by country, folk and bluegrass. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Portland then began a career as a professional guitarist, singer and songwriter in the Pacific Northwest.

There will be food, beverages, beer and wine available for purchase at the event.

Tickets can be purchased online for $20 or at the door for $25.

The concert begins at 6 pm at the Yachats Commons, located at 441 N Hwy 101.
