An artist reflects
The “Meet the Artist!” summer series at Lincoln City’s Freed Gallery concludes this Saturday, Sept. 2, with an exhibition by Roy Lowry.
The artist will demonstrate how his technique of using wet-on-wet watercolor defines the true nature of watercolor and brings his paintings to life.
After receiving an education in commercial art, Lowry worked as an illustrator and received national recognition while at a national sign company in Chicago.
His next move was to Alaska, backpacking the state and working on a crab fishing boat while preparing for shows in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
His travels took Lowry to England and Scotland before settling in Hawaii, where he spent 15 years as an accomplished textile designer and creative director for a well-known tropical shirt manufacturer.
What he saw and learned in his years of traveling adventures, as well as the wide variety and successful styles of creative projects he produced, landed him in Ocean Shores, where he returned to paint watercolors and pastels.
In addition to creating lifelike watercolor paintings, Lowry works with India ink, pastels and alcohol ink. His versatile work is available as paintings, tiles, fused glass and pottery.
As co-founder of the North Beach Artists Guild in Ocean Shores, Lowry brings his art and art education to the local community through exhibits and teaching weekly art classes.
Meet the artist from 2 to 5 pm at 6119 SW Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, go to freedgallery.com or call 541-994-5600.
