Call it puppy love

No matter your relationship status on a certain day named after a certain saint, if you have a dog, you live with unconditional love every day.

Document that love and help support a worthy cause at the "Puppy Love Valentine Social," hosted by the Gleneden Beach Community Club this Saturday, Feb. 12.

The club will be decked out in holiday-themed decor, treats will be provided for both people and pets, Meanwhile, a doggy play area, indoors or out depending on the weather, will provide a great opportunity to meet with other pet-parents and create new friendships.

And, for a $20 donation, you’ll document the day with photos of you and your best fur-end.

“We’ll have a photographer that will come in and take two photos in different poses,” community club Secretary Hope Suggit said. “We won’t have costumes or props, but people are more than welcome to bring their own.”

Of course, non-dog owners are welcome to attend the social to mix with neighbors and friends, but it will be helpful to at least like dogs.

“We wanted to have a fundraiser that was Valentine’s themed, but it still felt too soon for something like a singles party,” Suggit said. “So I thought, ‘Everyone loves their dog, what about something with the theme of puppy love’ and the wheels just started turning. We would have opened it up to other animals but we didn’t want it to be chaotic.”

After a long hiatus, the club is looking at slowly starting to have social events again.

“We’re getting balloons and are really going to make it a party atmosphere,” Suggit said. “We thought this would be a good way to ease into preparing for our 75th anniversary in May. We will be doing a huge celebration that month. We’ll be doing a plant sale in conjunction with Mother’s Day.”

People curious about the club are encouraged to attend the Valentine’s social.

“We are definitely looking for more members and we’ll be giving information about how to join and what the benefits are,” Suggit said. “I can’t wait until we can be more active again.”

Twenty five percent of the event proceeds will go to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.

The social is happening from 1 to 3 pm at the Gleneden Beach Community Club House, located at 110 Azalea Street. For more information, go to glenedenbeach.org.
