Can you help Coastal Voices boost the volume?
Coastal Voices, the Central Coast’s 52-voice choir, will hold Vocal Introductions on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and Saturday, Jan. 13, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newport.
Following a three-concert series along the coast in early December, the group wants to add new members for the spring season, with Artistic Director Rhodd Caldwell envisioning a 75-voice chorale.
“I want to make Lincoln County the county that sings,” he said, “beginning with 75 of us in a room making music together.”
The Vocal Introduction process is designed to be supportive and low-stress. Caldwell uses the time to get acquainted with prospective members and assess their vocal ranges and prior singing experience. No one who meets the age requirement of age 18 will be turned away.
“Singing is sustained speech,” Caldwell said. “If you can talk, you can sing.”
The Vocal Introductions will take place from 5:30 to 9 pm on Tuesday and from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, located at the corner of 9th and Hurbert streets in Newport. For more information, go to coastal-voices.org or call 541-283-6295.
Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening at the Elks Lodge, located at 45 SE Moore Drive in Newport.
