Breaching to the choir
The Oregon Chapter of the American Cetacean Society is offering the chance to get deep into whales this Saturday, Nov. 14, with a presentation by Alie Pérez of the Cascadia Research Collective (CRC)
The CRC maintains a wealth of data from more than three decades and 30,000 sightings of eastern North Pacific Gray whales. Researchers analyze these data to try and gain a better understanding of the whales’ population abundance, structure and migration movements.
Pérez has been working with CRC since 2009, where she started as an intern while an undergraduate student at Evergreen State College. She primarily works on photographic identification of blue, humpback and Gray whales. However, her emphasis has been managing Cascadia’s gray whale collections and contributions, including data and photo processing and catalog comparisons.
The free meeting will be held via Zoom beginning at 10 am. To register, go to www.eventbrite.com/e/speaker-series-meeting-11142020-tickets-126673829835.
