Comb one, comb all

Waldport Beachcomber Days is back and open to entries

The charming village of Waldport has events all year, from golf tournaments to a farmer and artisan market on Wednesdays and even a big gravel bike race, but the community really comes together in June to celebrate everything it has to offer during the annual Beachcomber Days.

This is the 66th year of Beachcomber Days, with the theme this year of “Sea of Dreams.”

The event will run for three days, Friday through Sunday, June 17 through 19.

There is still time to get in on this year's events — whether you have a classic car to show off, a parade entry idea to float or handmade items to sell.

Registration is also now open for a new Pro Show event that started just last year that welcomes lumberjacks from all over the Pacific Northwest who can compete and win up to $400.

The Pro Show will be on Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18, and includes a High School competition.

The parade is at noon on Saturday, June 18, and starts on Highway 34 by Ray’s Grocery store before traveling west to Highway 101, ending at Grand Central Pizza. Kids from zero to 99 are welcome to enter and compete for prizes in several categories. There is no fee to enter.

The Car Show Extravaganza will take place on Saturday, June 18, from 9 am to 3 pm in the Waldport Columbia Bank parking lot. Enter your car, hot rod or truck.

The Vendor Fair will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19, but vendors are welcome to stay open later.

Beachcomber Days will have free live entertainment all weekend long at the main stage located in the Central Coast Fire Department parking lot. The headlining event ending the evening on Saturday is the Sol Fire Dancers, a Beachcomber Days tradition.

The Kid Faire, held on Saturday, June 18, from 1 to 4 pm in the rear parking lot at Central Coast Fire Department, will include live performances from the Magical Mr. B and Americana Mayhem.  Numerous local non-profit organizations volunteer to run carnival-style games for kids for 25 cents a game, with plenty of cool prizes for the winners.

With a Royal Court, teen DJ dance party and even an outdoor movie in the Waldport Community Center parking lot, there is plenty of reason, as the town motto says, to “Find yourself in Waldport” in June.
