Don’t blow your chance for Mozart

Metropolitan Opera’s first-ever Live in HD transmission — the abridged, English-language version of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” is back for a special encore presentation at the Newport Performing Arts Center this Saturday, January 28.

Tony Award-winning theater artist Julie Taymor, of Broadway's “The Lion King,” brings Mozart’s music to life with an imaginative production that fills the Met stage with fantastical creatures. Audiences of all ages can indulge in this whimsical fan favorite, which is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the ears. Conducted by James Levine and originally broadcast live from The Met stage in 2006, the all-star cast includes tenor Matthew Polenzani, baritone Nathan Gunn and bass René Pape.

The show begins at 1 pm at the Newport Performing Arts Center, 777 W Olive Street. Tickets range from $12 to $22. For more information, go to coastarts.org or call 541-265-2782.
