Flock to Manzanita for this show

The May gallery show from Manzanita’s Hoffman Center for the Arts will feature work by Jim Koudelka, Jenny Siegel, and Michael Krall.

An artists’ reception will be held from 3 to 5 pm on Saturday, May 6, during which the artists will speak about their work and answer questions.

Koudelka, an artist and avid fisherman, will show his unique fly-tying stations and various ceramic works. Koudelka owns and operates Forest to Fly, a small business that designs and makes tabletop fly-tying stations out of Portland. He is also a highly skilled ceramicist, currently working on “Pastime Pots,” a series of cups, mugs and bowls decorated with fired-on decals that include fish, fly fishing and vintage fishing images. With both his fly-tying stations and his ceramics, Koudelka creates pieces that are simultaneously aesthetically unique, beautiful and incredibly functional.

Siegel is an artist based in Portland who is also a part time resident of Neahkahnie Beach. Her background in design and healing has led her to a dedicated creative practice and somatic exploration. Siegel will show “Fluid Bodies,” a series of mixed media paintings which explore the bodies of water that cover much of our planet, the elemental fluid in our own bodies and the interconnectedness that exists. The work was created using watercolor paint and acrylic ink on watercolor paper.

Krall will share the series “Flight of Ideas;” soft and ethereal abstract photos of dunlin in flight against the blue and green bay. As a photographer, he is attracted by the range and diversity of nature and creatures and enjoys the challenge of capturing mystery, beauty and timelessness in images, striving to see beyond the surface layer and experiencing emotion. He splits his time between Netarts and Portland.

The Hoffman Gallery is located at 594 Laneda Avenue in Manzanita and is open Thursday through Sunday from Noon to 5 pm. For more information, go to hoffmanarts.org or call 503-368-3846.
