Author Chris Crowley staying active

If you’ve been hoping for a catalyst to help you jump-start a new health regimen, the Newport Recreation Center and Newport Public Library have teamed up to provide the answer.

A community-wide, independent book read of “Younger Next Year: Live Strong, Fit, Sexy and Smart ‑ Until You’re 80 and Beyond,” by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge, MD, aims to inspire people to become healthier and more active and to take personal responsibility for how they age.

The community read runs through Friday, May 13, and will include two opportunities to attend a question-and-answer session led by Newport Recreation Center Fitness Specialist Brenda Luntzel.

The book provides current research and life-altering information for people to get back on track with their health.

“It is an unfortunate truth that 70 percent of premature deaths are lifestyle related,” Luntzel said. “People making the wrong choices contributes to chronic diseases, dysfunction and, as the book says, ‘decaying’ instead of aging.”

Participants can purchase their own copy or check one out at the library.

Register at the City of Newport website to stay connected with each person completing the book read and receive additional inspiring information and updates on the question-and-answer meetings.
