Get a lead on some good advice
Women are this nation's primary K-12 educators, but how can more of them become leaders in education? On Saturday, Nov. 5, Lincoln City’s Driftwood Public Library will offer the chance to learn from two who have.
Majalise Tolan and Dr. Rachael George will lead a presentation based on the book they co-authored, “She Leads: The Women's Guide to a Career in Educational Leadership.”
Tolan and George will ask women to embrace their dreams, break through barriers, rebound from setbacks and lead with authenticity.
Including the contributions of more than 37 women educators across the country, "She Leads" is a guidebook to paths to take to make the most of all levels of school organizations.
A Lincoln County resident, Tolan began her administrative career 15 years ago as a high school assistant principal and athletic director prior to expanding into other areas of curriculum, instruction and consulting.
George brings expertise from both elementary and secondary school experience from the Oregon Trail School District. She has been recognized for her achievements in curriculum development, instructional improvement, working with at-risk students and closing achievement gaps.
The Nov. 5 event is sponsored by the Lincoln City branch of the American Association of University Women, a group that works to advance gender equity through research, education and advocacy. The Lincoln City Branch endows scholarships, provides ongoing support for My Safe Place and facilitates donations of books to first graders at Oceanlake Elementary.
The presentation, which is open to all, begins at 10 am at the Driftwood Public Library, located at 801 SW Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, go to aauw-or.aauw.net.
