Get a read on comedy in Lincoln City

What's up at Theatre West? Enjoy Lincoln City’s treasured theater from the audience or even from the stage as the troupe prepares for the coming season.

First, the troupe presents a weekend of free staged readings as a gift to the community and a way to show appreciation to supporters and keep the energy of the theater flowing as rehearsals begin for the next full performance in May.

The short plays being read are “The Angel Intrudes” and “King Arthur’s Socks” by Floyd Dell; “A Matter of Husbands” by Ferenc Molnar, translated by Benjamin Glazer; and “The Boor,” also called “The Bear,” by Anton Chekhov.

These nostalgic and funny shows will be performed on Friday and Sunday, May 5 and 6 at 7:30 pm, with a Sunday matinée on May 7 at 2 pm.

Open auditions for "Popcorn Falls" by James Hindman are set for Sunday through Tuesday, May 28 through 30 at the theater.

The sleepy town of Popcorn Falls is forced into bankruptcy when a neighboring town threatens to turn them into a sewage treatment plant. Their only hope — open a theater! Two actors play more than 20 roles in a world of farce, love, and desperation, proving once and for all that art can save the world.

The roles call for two strong comedic male actors, and one or two other actors of any gender. New actors are encouraged to give it a try.

The show will be directed by Bonnie Ross. Rehearsals will begin immediately following casting. Show runs from August 3 to September 9.

Theater West is located at 3536 SE Hwy. 101. In Lincoln City. For more information, go to theatrewest.com.
