Get hooked on rugs
Join the Coastal Arts Guild for Tea & Talk with fiber artist Rosalind Noble on Thursday, Feb. 2, to learn about the art of hooked rugs.
Noble's interest in fiber arts dates back more than 20 years to a summer spent with a friend in Carpinteria, California, learning from a nationally recognized rug hooking teacher.
“I was fortunate enough to have been taught by her,” Noble said. “I loved the wool fabric and the textures one could create using plaids and spot dyed wool. Since then, I’ve attended many workshops and classes throughout the country and in Nova Scotia.”
Noble’s talk will include the history of rug American hooking and she will have a few examples of hooked rugs and mats.
“I will bring examples of the 100-percent wool fabric that we use to create these rugs and hand dye techniques commonly used by many rug hooking artists who dye their own wool,” she said. “Traditional rug hooking has as many styles as there are the fiber artists who create rugs. It’s a fun and forgiving art that anyone can enjoy.”
The talk begins at 2 pm, at the Newport Visual Arts Center, 777 NW Beach Drive, enter at the Nye Beach Turnaround entrance. For more information, call 541-574-3364.
