Glass art that lights the fuse

Go through the looking glass at the new exhibit by local fused glass artist Alice Haga. “Glass Menagerie” will be on display at the Newport Visual Arts Center from Friday, June 2, through July 29.

An opening reception for this and two other exhibits will be held on Friday from 5 to 9 pm. The event will feature live music by guitarist Skip Trantow and wine and light refreshments. Haga will be on hand to speak with guests.

A resident of Toledo, Haga has called Oregon home for nearly 30 years. In that time, her creativity and artistry have been expressed through everything from jewelry to hairstyling, costume design and, more recently, glass mosaics and fairy houses. Her work has been shown in exhibits with Toledo Arts Guild and several local galleries, including Sola Luna Gallery, Becky Miller Gallery and Toledo’s Crow’s Nest.

"I love creating with fused glass," she said. "Working with the beautiful colors makes me happy and every piece I make teaches me something new. I want each one to be unique and complete in itself...and a joy to its owner."

“Through the years, Alice has been a constant contributor to the creative energy nestled in our local Toledo and Newport art scenes,” said Chasse Davidson, director of the Newport Visual Arts Center. “We’re thrilled to have her fused glass work sparkle in our Coastal Oregon Visual Arts Showcase this summer!”
