Go for a bird walk — you won’t egret it
The Alder Island Loop Trail is one of the newest places on the Central Coast to enjoy the outdoors and is a well-groomed and almost flat trek. Check out the many feathered features found along the trail on the next bird walk with Lincoln City Audubon this Saturday, Aug. 13.
The one-mile trail loops through riparian and wetland habitat within the Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge and along the Siletz River. The group will look for resident and migratory songbirds and nesting birds such as great blue heron and osprey. The trail allows intimate views of a variety of habitats: estuarine, marsh, river and woodland, highlighted by interpretive signage. Enjoy the birds of Alder Island and earn your Explore Lincoln City EXPLORIENCE passport token.
Audubon Society of Lincoln City was founded as a chapter of the National Audubon Society in 2005 and is active in education and advocacy for protection of birds and other wildlife and their habitats in Lincoln and Tillamook Counties.
All the group’s bird walks are free, family-friendly, easy to moderately easy and no pre-registration or experience is required. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided.
The walk begins at 9 am at the Alder Island Trail parking lot just south of the Siletz River bridge. For more information, go to lincolncityaudubon.org.
