Go long, in Pacific City

Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic is not short on fun

The annual Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic, a prestigious longboard surf contest, is set to return to the shores of Pacific City this Friday, Sept. 15, through Sunday Sept. 17.

This three-day event promises to deliver thrilling surf action, community camaraderie and unforgettable experiences for surfers and spectators.

Now in its 24th year, the contest has become a much-anticipated tradition, drawing more than 200 skilled surfers from across the region and beyond. With the rugged beauty of Cape Kiwanda as a backdrop, participants will showcase their exceptional longboarding skills and vie for top honors in a series of exhilarating heats. From graceful nose rides to powerful carving maneuvers, each competitor will bring their unique style, finesse and passion to the waves, inspiring awe and admiration among spectators and fellow surfers.

The Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic continues to be a benefit event for the Pacific City Skatepark, with a portion of the proceeds going to the funding of park maintenance and expansion. This year a portion of the proceeds will also go to the fire recovery efforts of Maui Strong.

"We are thrilled to once again co-host the Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic,” said Alexandra Pallas, brand manager of event sponsor Pelican Brewing Company. “It's a celebration of surfing, camaraderie and the incredible coastal lifestyle that we’re fortunate to be a part of here in Pacific City.”

The event also has a range of engaging activities, from live music to kick off the event on Friday night to onsite demonstrations of local surfboard shapers creating boards on Saturday and Sunday. Guests can also enjoy displays from the event artist and sales of local merchandise as well as fun bites to go with the tasty beverages from Pelican Brewing.

“The Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic is not just a surf contest; it's a celebration of the Pacific City community and the shared passion for the ocean,” said event organizer Lisa Baker of Moment Surf Company. “We invite surfers, spectators, families and friends to come to the coast and soak in the atmosphere and create memories at this year’s event.”
