Harvest auction is a bid of fun

This isn’t your usual harvest event.

Yes, there will be fall fare like fruits, vegetables and gourds, baked goods, and handmade gifts when the Logsden Community Club Harvest Auction returns after a three-year absence this Saturday, Oct. 15.

But instead of walking along tables looking for price tags, you’ll have to score the goods by winning the bid.

“It’s a live auction and really a lot of fun,” long-time club member Teresa Simmons said. “It's very lively, happens fast and there’s a lot of good competition.”

The largest fundraiser of the year for the club, the event once again promises an abundance of goods from the garden, fresh baked culinary delights, home canning, handmade items and gift certificates.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle and hot dogs, chips, drinks and veggie burgers on sale prior to the auction.

“The building will be open and airy but you still get a nice aroma from whatever’s cooking,” Simmons said. “It’s really a gathering, a time to meet people, share ideas and a good get-together for everyone.”

Two new auctioneers will help keep the energy up.

“They are young people and they are both really interesting,” Simmons said. “One of them does long-distance hikes, like all the way across the Continental Divide, and then makes videos about it.”

If anything like past club harvest auctions, this one will have people coming home with unexpected items, which is all part of the fun.

“People get really into it and they end up bidding on the most ridiculous things,” Simmons said. “I bought live chickens there once. We had to pick them up the next day so I had to hurry up and find a place to put them.”

A non-profit organization made up of a group of friends and neighbors striving to enhance the quality of life in the area, the club donates a portion of fundraising profits back to the community, including to the Siletz Valley Fire District, Bright Horizons Therapeutic Riding Center and Food Share of Lincoln County.

Items can still be donated on the day of the auction from 10 am to 2 pm, or upon arrival.

The event begins at 6 pm. For more information, email Logsden1@gmail.com or go to the Logsden Community Club page on Facebook.
