Have the stein of your life

Fall on the Oregon Coast requires a few wardrobe essentials — a fleece vest to maintain core temperature, a light jacket to fend of rain showers and, of course, lederhosen for proper beer appreciation.

These hardwearing Bavarian leather shorts are the outfit of choice for OktoberCrest, Beachcrest Brewing’s annual salute to the homeland of hops.

Returning for its fifth year this Friday, Sept. 22, through Sunday, Sept. 24, the celebration promises multiple fall beer releases, German-inspired food specials, live music and merrymaking for all.

Throughout the weekend, guests will also be invited to test the strength of their drinking arms by taking part in the stein hoisting contest. This traditional Bavarian contest sees competitors hold a full liter beer stein straight in front of their bodies, with arms at full stretch. The last person standing in position is the winner.

OktoberCrest will run from noon to 8 pm on Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 23; and from noon to 7 pm on Sunday, Sept. 24. Beachcrest Brewing Company is located in the Salishan Marketplace, 7755 Highway 101, just south of Lincoln City. For more information, go to beachcrestbrewing.com.
