Honk if you love live theater

The Lincoln City Playhouse for Youth will present “Honk! JR.” live on stage at the Lincoln City Cultural Center this weekend.

Adapted for young performers, “Honk! JR.” is a heartwarming celebration of being different that is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its sparkling wit and unique charm.

The memorable score is from the writing team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, known for such musicals as “Mary Poppins,” “Peter Pan” and “Honk.”

The play focuses on Ugly, a duck that looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat.

Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.

Lincoln City Playhouse is a youth theater company primarily for kids aged eight to 18, but open to younger when possible. The group produces and performs from four to six plays a year.

Performances are at 7 pm on Friday, April 1, 4 pm and 7 pm on Saturday, April 2, and 2 pm on Sunday, April 3. Tickets are $8 for kids and $14 for adults. The Lincoln City Cultural Center is located at 540 NE Hwy. 101. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to lincolncity-culturalcenter.org or call 541-994-9994.
