Horn in on a great event

Kids of all ages are invited to believe in unicorns on Wednesday, March 24, when the Driftwood Public Library hosts a live virtual author talk with Dana Simpson, bestselling creator of “Phoebe and Her Unicorn.” Also part of the event is a virtual unicorn story time with Driftwood staff and a take-and-make unicorn craft.

Simpson’s comic strip, syndicated in more than 100 newspapers nationwide, shows the humorous adventures of nine-year-old Phoebe Howell and her best friend, a unicorn named Marigold Heavenly Nostrils. Collected editions of the comic strips and associated graphic novels have regularly appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for children’s graphic novels, have received the Pacific Northwest Book Award and the Washington State Book Award and are perennial favorites at Driftwood Public Library. The comic is also in development by Nickelodeon as a children’s series.

The author presentation, live via Zoom at 3 pm, will be geared toward kids and questions about Simpson’s work and Phoebe’s world are highly encouraged.

To register for the event, email Rachel Humpert at rhumpert@lincolncity.org.

The virtual unicorn story time will be recorded and posted to the library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Craft kits can be picked up curbside at the library from Monday March 22, through Friday, March 26, while supplies last. Curbside hours are 1 to 5 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Thursday.
