Keep boredom at bay
Local photographers Kim Cuc Tran and Ted Crego will share a two week spotlight show at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery, opening this Saturday, July 22 and running through Aug 4.
Both artists have extensive experience capturing the moment that lingers in the mind with their cameras. They are also married to each other, with both sharing past careers in engineering. Together they have widely traveled in Asia, Europe and both Americas. Expect to see images of the Oregon Coast as well.
Their styles and choice of photos are very much separated. While Tran and her husband often take photos of the same locations she says it is rare they shoot the same image.
Her mantra, “Simplify, simplify, simplify” has served her well in the process of capturing and creating inspiring images. She enjoys shooting abstracts, close-ups, birds and flowers which results in creative art photos to share with viewers.
Crego enjoys finding images that others may overlook, such as patterns and macro shots. His recent work includes panoramas and High Dynamic Range photos. He believes there is always something new to learn in photography. This is essentially true with the myriad of software programs available for post processing.
Both Crego and Tran’s work have been recognized and critically praised in competitions.
They live full-time in Newport and are active with the Yaquina Art Association Photographers, whose mission is to develop and encourage others.
The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive and is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. For more information, go to yaaphotographers.org.
