Use your zoom lens

Even if you’ve managed to make it this far without using Zoom, you might not be out of the woods yet. The Newport 60+ Activity Center wants to make sure you feel comfortable with this now-ubiquitous communication program with two upcoming “Learn how to Zoom” sessions, both at 10 am, on Monday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 23.

Zoom has been a major player, not just in business but also helping friends and family stay in touch during the pandemic. It’s easy to do as long as you have access to a computer.

This fun, interactive session will help you get an understanding of how to navigate the program at a time when it is okay to make mistakes.

Find less taxing ways to file

Whether you’ve spent the last few months planning what you are going to spend your refund on or fantasizing that it’s not going to happen this year, tax time is upon us again and the Newport 60+ Activity Center wants to help you get the most out of it.

At 11 am on Thursday, March 11, a free Zoom session, “Tax Preparation Options,” will include information about how Oregon taxpayers can prepare and E-file their own taxes using free software offerings from the IRS and others. The session will include explanations of various meant for older or low-income taxpayers.

Party arty

One of the things that’s been tough about quarantine is you can’t have people over, wait until they notice the new painting you hung practically in the doorway, and then say something about how you just threw it together when you were bored when they compliment it.

The virtual Arty Party, sponsored by the Newport 60+ Activity Center at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 9, will provide that opportunity again, while still keeping participants safe.

Partiers will share what they have been working on, what they would like to start and give information on the different projects and processes they’ve used.

There are no rules about art projects: they can be painting, knitting, pencil drawing or even crayon coloring.
