Let it ‘Rayn’

Get out of the rain and into the Rayn when Seattle-based Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes and singer/multi-instrumentalist, Diego Amador Jr. bring their latest show to the Oregon Coast.

The duo will perform “Rayn: Flamenco for a New World” at the Bay City Arts Center on Sunday, Nov. 13, and the Primaltones Community Venue in Newport on Monday, Nov. 14.

Fuentes’ latest production is a new beginning for the busiest Flamenco dancer in the Pacific Northwest — she has designed new costumes, set new choreography and had a new dance floor constructed for this tour. “Rayn” symbolizes the fresh new start that comes after substantial rainfall while also paying homage to Fuentes’ Seattle roots.

Fuentes began her artistic journey in her late teens and continues to this day. She has studied with many notable Flamenco artists including Guadiana, Joaquin Grilo, Eva Yerbabuena, El Farru and Isabel Bayon. She attributes her formation as an artist to her most significant mentor, Maestra Sara de Luis.

Amador Jr. comes from the legendary Amador family, famous for fusing Flamenco with blues, jazz and salsa music. He is a powerful singer, a sublime guitarist and also plays piano, bass and percussion. From a very young age, he began performing and touring with some of Spain’s top flamenco artists, including Remedios Amaya, La Susi, Lole Montoya, Farruquito and Joaquín Cortés. He has also worked alongside jazz greats such as Pat Metheny, Bireli Lagrene and Charlie Haden.

The 29-year-old recently released his first full-length album, “Presente en el Tiempo.”

Fuentes and Amador Jr. have forged a unique artistic partnership, performing throughout Washington, Oregon and California since 2019.

Both shows begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $26 for general admission, $40 for VIP seating, $18 for students and $12 for children.

The Bay City Arts Center is located at 5680 A Street. Primaltones Community Venue is located at 2925 Southeast Ferry Slip Road in Newport. For more information and tickets, go to savannahf.com.
