Library calls in a pair of stringers

Studies show that continual learning helps keep the brain supple for a lifetime, and the Newport Public Library Summer Music Series is offering a cool and unique learning opportunity. Prior to their concert on Saturday, Aug. 27, Aryeh Frankfurter and Lisa Lynne will be hosting a free, one-hour Hands-on-Harps workshop, best for ages 10 and older. 20 harps will be available.

The concert following the workshop features Frankfurter and Lynne playing a variety of instruments including two Celtic harps, the rare Swedish nyckelharpa, a Ukrainian bandura and a cittern. The audience will hear traditional instrumental music from Sweden and Ireland as well as heartwarming original compositions blended with stories of humor and adventure.Bring chairs, blankets and the whole family to enjoy an afternoon of music, community, funand food. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the concert will relocate indoors to the NewportPublic Library’s McEntee Meeting Room.The harp workshop begins at noon and the concert begins at 3 pm in Literacy Park behind the Newport Public Library at 35 NW Nye Street.
