Library issues read alert
The Summer Reading Program at Lincoln City’s Driftwood Public Library is already underway, offering plenty of opportunities to discover how “Reading Colors Your World.”
The program is designed to help infants and toddlers develop early literacy skills; combat the summertime loss of academic skills in children and teens; and encourage adults to exercise their minds by reading for recreation.
Participants receive a free custom Driftwood Public Library lanyard and set of colored pencils for tracking their reading journey on a special Summer Reading log. Readers color one portion of the log for each goal met, earning an enamel pin for each column or row they complete.
People who complete the whole log will be rewarded with a custom Driftwood Public Library enamel pin, featuring the library’s octopus logo. Those too young for the decorative pins will receive a free board book upon sign up, and an additional board book for each reading goal met. Older children will also receive a free age-appropriate book upon sign-up, while supplies last.
Also already in progress are the virtual shows presented by the county, with plenty more to come, beginning with Mad Science with Madame Chaos on Tuesday, June 29, and Thursday, July 1.
Upcoming presentations include Mo Phillips’ comedy and storytelling, Matt Baker’s comedy and juggling, Vicki Gasko Green’s ventriloquism, the Traveling Lantern Theatre Company, Anne-Louise Sterry storytelling and Rich Ritchey, the Oregon Reptile Man. Registration is required for Mad Science. All other presentations will be posted on the library’s YouTube channel.
