Lift your spirits with some Oscar shorts
Lincoln City’s Bijou Theatre is once again getting into the Oscars spirit by screening this year’s Academy Award-nominated short films from Friday, March 1, through Thursday, March 7.
The Bijou will also give out ballots, allowing viewers to pick the films they think deserve to take home the coveted gold statuette. Watch the March 10 award ceremony to see how well you guessed.
The nominations are divided among three categories: Animation, Live Action and Documentary.
This year’s animated entries include “Letter to a Pig” from Israeli director Tal Kantor, in which a Holocaust survivor reads a letter he wrote to the pig who saved his life.
The Live Action category includes UK entry “The After,” a powerful and affecting story that follows Dayo (played by David Oyelowo), a Londoner who has to reconnect with himself and society after witnessing a devastating random attack in the capital.
Among the entries in the Documentary category are US director Sheila Nevins’ “The ABCs of Book Banning,” which follows the human toll the future will pay for depriving children of their right to read and learn about a complex world.
Admission is $10 for each individual program or $27 for all three.
The Bijou Theatre is located at 1624 NE Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, go to cinemalovers.com or call 541-994-8255.
