Lighten up, Dark Days are ahead

Larkin Grimm • Saturday, Oct. 14

This weekend will see Yachats greet the annular solar eclipse with the Dark Days Festival, showcasing a host of musical artists throughout Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14.

Headlining the festival on Friday will be Song Soup, featuring singer-songwriters Julianna Zachariou, Josh Flowers and Ny Oh.

Friday’s other performers include In Gowan Ring, playing symbolist folk music on homemade instruments; Balladir, an Ashland-based song-carver; Lisa Fitzgerald, who sings sweet original songs with bright melodies and disarmingly honest lyrics; John Carter, an eclectic performer who weaves together music with storytelling; and Eli Cherry, performing trance-inducing, nature-inspired, contemplative folk music.

On Saturday, guests can enjoy sets from appalachian-born harpist Larkin Grimm; Arrington de Dionyso, performing sacred mushroom songs for voice, bass clarinet and trance flute; folk guitarist and songwriter Joseph Allred; synthesizer and harp loop project Mere of Light; dreamy indie rock band Fieldress; Ben Guihan, whose colorful guitar style is rooted in traditional folk; Opossum Sun Trail, a cinematic/western pastoral pastiche from Oregon; Weird Weird West, who blend genres between psychedelic, post rock, noise and free jazz; an unsettling mix of smooth jazz, spoken word and noise from Bjorkstalker; and psychedelic folk fantasia from simple pig.

The Dark Days Festival will take place at the Yachats Commons, 441 Hwy. 101 N. Tickets are $50 for the full weekend; $25 for Friday only; and $35 for Saturday only.
