Lincoln City artist shares perspective

The Artists’ Studio Association in Lincoln City will be displaying work by featured artist Steve Rutherford throughout April.

A native Oregonian, attorney, public school administrator, educator, woodworker, builder and lover of nature, Rutherford has worked in a number of mediums including ceramics, woodworking, watercolors, acrylics and tempera batiks.

“I adore the Oregon Coast and the state in which we live,” he said, adding: “Although I struggle to find the time to work with art, I am always hopeful that one day it will be the focus of my time and energies.”

Rutherford, who currently works as a Real Estate Broker for Taylor and Taylor Realty Co., serves on the Artists’ Studio Association board and will be teaching a tempera batik class this summer.

“My experience in the teaching, legal and administrative fields, coupled with extensive travels around the world have provided me with an enriched perspective on the importance of art in local communities around the globe,” he said. “My mate, Vonelle Swanson is a photographer, who has brought color back into my life and altered my life and artistic pursuits over the past few years.”

The Artists’ Studio Association is located at 640 NE Hwy. 101, across from Dutch Bros. Coffee, and is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily except Wednesdays.
