The Newport Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a fund-raiser and demonstration excursion to benefit a new mobility track chair to be placed at Nye Beach.

The fund-raiser will be held at the Newport Elks Lodge this Friday, June 16, followed by an excursion at Nye Beach Turnaround on Saturday, June 17.

David’s Chair is a nonprofit that provides free track chairs and Para Golfers to people with mobility challenges. These tools are designed to reduce the extra effort required to transport a person’s own track chair for use on beaches.

Friday’s fund-raiser will include free food and music, a chance to meet representatives of the David’s Chair organization, and a silent auction packed with gift baskets, gift certificates and other great items from local supporters.

The fund-raiser will run from 6 to 8 pm at the Newport Elks Lodge, located at 45 SE Moore Drive.

Saturday’s excursion will offer the chance to view the mobility track chairs in action. David’s Chair will have four to six track chairs for the public to try.

The excursion will take place from 10 am to 4 pm at the Nye Beach Turnaround, located at NW Beach Drive in Newport.
