No coasting on these trails

The Coast Hills Classic, a bike race with a course that includes ocean views, sweeping meadows, gnarly single track and killer climbs on trails south of Newport will return for another round on Sunday, June 13.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the youth programs scholarship fund at the Newport Recreation Center, which allows kids from economically disadvantaged households the opportunity to participate in a number of programs.

The CHC is part of the Oregon Off-Road Series and the Junior MTB Series.

In addition to all the safety measures required for public gatherings, there will be no spectators allowed this year and riders should come prepared with their own food and water.

A pre-ride of the 10.8-mile course will be led by local riders starting at 2 pm on Saturday, June 12.

To get to the course, turn east from Highway 101 onto 40th Street, and follow it until it dead ends into a gravel road with a gate. Parking is available all along both sides of 40th Street.

Online registration, $25 for juniors and $55 for adults, ends at noon on June 11. There will be no race-day entries.
