Do you enjoy whale watching? Would you like to aid in scientific research on whales? Learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities at “Community Science & You,” presented by Joy Primrose, president of the Oregon Chapter of the American Cetacean Society and Era Horton, ACS certified naturalist, via Zoom this Saturday, April 9.

Community Science offers you the opportunity to contribute to knowledge of whales, dolphins, porpoises and their habitats. The presenters will highlight three projects currently looking for volunteers. You choose as much or as little participation as fits your schedule.

An example of a current project is “Whales and marine reserves: education and awareness,” a community science project of the ACS-Oregon Chapter. Primrose and Horton will present the project and the results to date, and will provide the required volunteer training during this session.

The American Cetacean Society protects whales, dolphins, porpoises and their habitats. The non-profit organization was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in San Pedro, CA. For more information on the ACS, go to www.acsonline.org.

The presentation begins at 10 am. Registration is required by 5 pm on Friday, April 8. For more information, email marine_lover4ever@yahoo.com, call 541-517-8754 or go to the American Cetacean Society-Oregon Chapter on Facebook.
