Get ready for a colorful summer of reading and events at Toledo Public Library revolving around the theme, “Reading Colors Your World.”

Virtual and in-person events are planned for kids of all ages, up to and including high school.

Get outside to enjoy the Story Trail along Waterfront Park, with pages from “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywalt. At the end of the trail pick up a Color Walk Activity Sheet, which can be completed and turned in at the library for a chance to win the green plush crayon from the book.

You can also experience the book read aloud during Online Story Time, with special guest readers. After viewing, decide for yourself, is the color of the sun yellow or orange?

Up your game with Storybook Tic-Tac-Toe, featuring clues from the book “Summer Color” by Diana Murray. The book and game sheet are available at the library while supplies last. Return the completed tic-tac-toe sheet to the library for prize possibilities.

The Tween Book Club will be reading “The Fourteenth Goldfish” by Jennifer Holms. Participation includes a take-home box full of weekly crafts and snacks to create and consume as you read independently. The event wraps with a Jeopardy game and pizza party.

Teens can get creative for the Teen Duct Tape Challenge by making duct tape creations inspired by books they’ve read. Bring the completed objet d'art to the library by the end of July to be entered to win a $25 Amazon card.

For family fun, join the Fairy House Workshop from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, July 17, at Crow’s Nest Gallery and Studio, 305 N Main Street. All materials will be provided, plus families will go home with a copy of “Come One Come All to the Fairy Ball!” by Sarah Gayle Strickland.

Plug in to the Lincoln County Library District’s summer entertainment schedule, kicking off with Alex Zerbe, the Professional Zaniac, on Monday, June 21. Mad Science with Madame Chaos performs the following week. Each week through the summer will bring a new performer, which includes Mo Phillips’ comedy and storytelling, Matt Baker’s comedy and juggling, Vicki Gasko Green’s ventriloquism, Traveling Lantern Puppet Show, Anne-Louise Sterry storytelling and Rich Ritchey, the Oregon Reptile Man.

All participants who complete part of the reading program, including a Reading Log with at least 10 books read, will get a Summer Reading Program t-shirt while supplies last.

The Toledo Public Library is located at 173 NW 7th Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm. Registration is required for in-person events, as limited spots and supplies are available. For more information, go to www.cityoftoledo.org/library or call 541-336-3132.
