So, three guys walk into a casino…
Some of the best comedy comes from people putting an original spin on real-life situations.
Performers will mine the rich veins of a former life as a truck driver and dock worker and current life as a nurse when Chinook Winds Casino Resort presents Comedy on the Coast this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21 and 22. The lineup includes Rocky LaPorte, Duane Goad and Greg “G” Williams.
LaPorte’s appeal comes from his everyman, streetwise yet clean style of comedy. A former Chicago truck driver and dock worker, he delivers laughs in his trademark Brooklyn accent and has become one of the most sought-after comedians in the country. He has opened for the likes of Garry Shandling, Drew Carey, Tim Allen and Louie Anderson, and his TV credits include being a featured comic on Showtime’s “The Godfathers of Comedy” and appearing on season eight of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”
On the big screen, he was in the Tim Allen movies, “Crazy on the Outside” and “The Shaggy Dog.”
The blue-collar comedian has traveled with Drew Carey to Iraq to entertain the troops and was part of the Showtime special, “Patriot Act.”
Goad is a Canadian-born, Seattle-based comedian who has entertained audiences all over the US and Canada with his quick, sarcastic and self-deprecating style.
He has performed at some of North America’s top comedy clubs including Yuk Yuks, The Improv and Comedyworks as well as numerous comedy festivals including Funny or Die’s Oddball Comedy Festival, the Las Vegas Comedy Festival, the Bumbershoot Arts Festival and the Vancouver Comedy Festival. He was also a finalist in the Seattle International Comedy Competition.
Williams is working diligently to be a breath of fresh air by taking a different path into the world of comedy. His comedic style arises from his day-to-day life as a nurse. Born in Virginia and raised in North Carolina, Williams joined the Army where he served for five years during Desert Storm. After leaving the Army he became a registered nurse, specializing in working with premature infants. After discovering life in a hospital can be hilariously entertaining, he developed his act in the comedy clubs of Atlanta.
Williams self-produces a one-man show at the San Jose Improv called Nurse’s Night Out. The house is always packed with his fans.
He has shared the stage with such greats as Bruce-Bruce, Rodney Perry, Brad Williams, Vir Das, Paul Orgata and Cowboy Bill Martin.
Comedy on the Coast occurs monthly at the casino, owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
The comedy continues in February with Jeff Shaw, Andy Hendrickson and Omar Tarango.
