Take a bike out of life
No matter your skill level, Ride the Dirt Wave is a new series of races and guided rides that are a great way to get started mountain biking, up your game or simply make some new riding partners.
The series began in June on the north coast at Klootchy Creek then headed down to Coos County for the Whiskey Run trails in July. The final event will be held in Newport on Saturday and Sunday, August 12 and 13.
“It’s such a new thing since there has never been a mountain bike race series like this on the coast,” said Elliott Crowder Jr., son of event organizers and owners of Bike Newport Elliott and Daniella Crowder. “I wasn’t able to make it to the first two but my parents were raving about them. I’m really excited for the Newport race. It will be a great way to show off the trails we have here. We have what I consider foot for foot some of the best dirt in the state. I’m pretty pumped.”
The weekend will begin on Saturday with guided rides at the Wilder Trails near the campus of the Oregon Coast Community College, with plenty of options for beginner to advanced riders.
These trails present a classic coastal-style riding experience, featuring an abundance of roots and natural attributes that provide an enjoyable and challenging ride. Wilder boasts an XC flavor, owing to the technical aspects of the riding and the presence of various interconnected trail sections connected by forest roads.
The celebration of the trails will continue with food, music and beverages on site. Food cart and locally brewed beer will be available for purchase.
Race day on Sunday will take place at the brand new Big Creek Trails for the Flow Duro Championship event. Categories will include an e-bike only event.
The Big Creek Trails are the newest trails in Newport. They are a joint effort between the local bike club and the City of Newport. It is a small system but perfect for the Flow Duro Challenge.
