Tea, talk and tapestry

The Coastal Arts Guild invites you to Tea and Talk with artist Windwalker Taibi at the Newport Visual Arts Center on Thursday, March 2.

Taibi’s work includes tapestry design and weaving, yarn spinning, watercolor and stone cutting.

“I have been creating artwork of one kind or another most of my life,” he said. “My childhood and young adult years were spent wandering the wild places of my home in New Jersey, learning the ways of nature.”

Tapestry weaving quickly became his primary art form, and he learned to spin his own yarns.

“I love to dive into a project with no intention other than to create a tapestry, or to work in my other chosen media of watercolor and gemstone cutting,” he said. “As to the outcome, I just let my heart and spirit guide my hands and my vision. I am inspired by my life’s experiences and the natural world around me, always with an eye toward interpreting things the way I see and feel them. All my art is intended to inspire people to see the joy, beauty and passion in their own lives.”

Taibi and his wife and best friend, artist Mary Jo Oxrieder, co-own Raven Rocks Gallery in Depoe Bay.

The March 2 talk begins at 2 pm at the Newport Visual Arts Center, located at 777 NW Beach Drive.  For more information, go to the Coastal Arts Guild page on Facebook or call 541-574-3364.
