The art of the perfect holiday

Winter Art Festival brings holiday cheer to Lincoln City

The Lincoln City SeaGals are all about service and fun, and the latter will be in full swing at the group’s second annual Winter Art Festival, happening at the Lincoln City Cultural Center this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24 and 25.

There will be a full house of arts and crafts booths, with products by local and regional artists that include blown and stained glass, pottery, sculptures, oil and acrylic paintings, fiber arts, metal art, driftwood art, jewelry, photography and more.

The Chessman Gallery and the Fiber Art Studio will be open as well as the artist studios located downstairs. This year, there will also be a SeaGals booth full of all sorts of crafts made by members.

Friday is family fun day, with an ornament “Make ’n Take” from noon to 5 pm and a winter wonderland photo opportunity with a pair of plush reindeer.

At the end of Friday, the Sweet Adelines will be singing Christmas carols to usher in the tree lighting ceremony and the arrival of Santa, who will be bringing goodies for the kids.

On the stage in the auditorium will be a full schedule of music, starting at noon with Bobby Wentz, aka “Guitar Bobby,” a local favorite whose various music projects include summers with the Siletz Bay Music Festival, teaching guitar workshops for local youth, giving private lessons and performing.

At 2:30 pm, Portland-based Chris Baron and Two Secrets will hit the stage to perform their funky eclectic original music.

On Saturday, the music acts will begin at 10 am with the pop-rock band Tiger Ghost Show, voted the Best Music at last year’s festival. The band is made up of brothers Dave Wentz, singer songwriter for the Salem-based Tigers of Youth and Ben Wentz of Ghost Fire Writer.

At 12:30 pm, the festival welcomes back another local favorite, the Greg Ernst Trio, with guitarist Ernst joined by two prominent Portland jazz musicians, Ted Swenson on the upright bass and Ronnie LeGrone on the drums. Together, these musical artists will improvise on standards, original compositions and maybe even a few Christmas tunes.

Food choices will include Ocean's Apart Catering, offering Hawaiian dishes made by Frank Napoleon, and Phill's Smok/N/Grill BBQ, with delicious barbecue and sides. For those with a sweet tooth, the Bakery Babes Bake Sale will offer the best homemade goodies by the SeaGals.

Try your luck at the raffle and the chance to win a cute, old-growth redwood chainsaw carved bear holding a crab, appropriately named “Crabby,” donated by James Lukinich.

Guests will also get a second chance to win, with a piece of donated artwork from one of the festival’s talented vendors also up for grabs. Raffle winner announcements begin at 3 pm on Saturday. Ticket holders need not be present to win.

The Winter Art Festival is open on Friday from noon to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, located at 540 NE Hwy. 101.
