The Sturtz of summer

Break out the blankets and lawn chairs for a concert in the park this Sunday, June 25, in Newport.

The free concert will feature Sturtz, an acoustic quartet with Andrew Sturtz on vocals and guitar, Jim Herlihy on banjo, Courtlyn Carpenter on cello, and Will Kuepper on bass. The band’s sound falls somewhere at the intersection of folk and soul, with Sturtz's melodic vocals soaring over the lower string instrumentals. Based in Colorado, the band has toured across the US, opening for groups like the Eli Young Band, Trout Steak Revival and Lillie Mae. Sturtz released their debut album “You've Done this Before” in 2021, and the band is now hard at work touring with this album and writing songs for their next one. When not playing music, band members can probably be found milling flour, farming or laying in a creek.

The music starts at 3 pm at Betty Wheeler Memorial Field, located at 852 NW Nye Street in Newport.
