The toughest bootcamp. Period.
Poor writing will get the boot when the Willamette Writers Coast Chapter hosts Maren Anderson, emerita editor of the Timberline Review, for Editing Bootcamp at Newport Public Library this Saturday, April 22.
You might love it, you might hate it, but without it, a story is doomed. This fast-paced interactive workshop will walk you through a specific process for deep editing of scenes, paragraphs, sentences and words. These are practical tools you can use on the fly to make your scenes shine.
Participants are encouraged to bring two pages of their work in progress, preferably the beginning of a chapter that is still in the rough draft stage, and they can work along as Anderson moves through the process. Writers are welcome to participate even if they do not have a chapter in rough draft stage.
Nonfiction and memoir writers can learn tips as well.
Anderson is an Oregon-based writer, teacher and alpaca rancher. In addition to her work at the Timberline Review, she is the editor of “PURE Insights — Undergraduate Research Experiences at Western Oregon University.” She has written plays for the Apple Box Children’s Theater and her writing has appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, Alpacas Magazine and the Timberline Review. She teaches at Western Oregon University. Her new novel “Sparks,” sex farce “Closing the Store” and alpaca ranch romance “Fuzzy Logic,” are available online and at local bookstores.
The Willamette Writers Coast Chapter hosts a mix of in-person and virtual events from September through June. Programs are free and open to all writers aged 18 and older. There are Young Willamette Writer chapters for those younger than 18.
The bootcamp is from 2 to 3:30 pm at Newport Public Library, located at 35 NW Nye Street. For more information, go to willamettewriters.org.
