This class has people buzzing

Fly tying can be enjoyed by anglers who would like to create their own lures to attract fish in local streams, for the challenge of learning a new skill or just for the fun of it.

The best way to learn is with in-person help to get started with the basics. For the next two Saturdays, Feb. 4 and 11, the Central Coast Fly Fishers will offer free fly-tying classes at the OSU Extension Service in Newport.

Tools and materials will be available during classes. Class size will be limited so that club members can give individualized help to those new to tying.

Each person attending will receive a copy of Randall Kaufmann’s “Fly Tying Made Easy For Beginners.” The club will also offer tools as raffle prizes and quality vises for lowest prices possible.

Following the initial two classes, new tyers can join monthly tying sessions for club members. There will be experienced people available to helpnewbies get started the right way, learning step-by-step.

Classes run from 9 am to noon. Pre-registration is required. The OSU Extension Service is located at 1211 SE Bay Blvd., Newport. For more information and to register, e-mail Tom Peck at tomp345@gmail.com.
