Get hooked on Fishing Rock Eatery & Lounge
A hidden gem nestled between Lincoln Beach and Depoe Bay, Fishing Rock Eatery & Lounge will soon be celebrating its one-year anniversary.
Eatery owner Michelle Long had previously run Lord Brixxton’s restaurant from the same premises. After being shut down for two years due to COVID and a burst water main pipe, Long decided to take the restaurant in a different culinary direction, and Fishing Rock Eatery opened its doors July 1, 2022.
Long said the new name pays homage to the nearby Fishing Rock State Park.
In addition to a re-designed interior space the Eatery has a new culinary philosophy, which Long characterized as “a place catering to the local community.” The word “eatery” was added to the name to focus on the varied cuisine. Under the direction of Jerry Palermini, Fishing Rock Eatery and Lounge offers local favorites such as fish ’n chips, shrimp scampi and seafood chowder. If you’re not in the mood for seafood, don’t worry — Fishing Rock Eatery has pizza, burgers, French dip and Philly cheese steak too. And, if you want to try many dishes at once, you can order from the appetizer or tapas section with dishes including calamari, pretzel sticks, fried mac ’n cheese balls, steak bites, fried pickles and chicken wings. In addition, the staff is willing to customize food for dietary needs or preferences.
“If a customer wants red sauce on a pasta dish instead of Alfredo, we can make that happen” Long said, “as long as we have the requested item on hand.”
Palermini has been known to create dishes for customers upon request as well.
The restaurant now has separate entrances for the expanded bar and for the dining area as well as a walk-up window to an ice cream shop. The front of the building is complete with picnic tables and heaters for outdoor seating — and you can bring your favorite four-legged pal.
Sunday evenings feature prime rib dinner and Monday evenings feature a “special dinner for two” offering, with the celebrated menu changing weekly. There’s also a Happy Hour every day from 3 to 5 pm featuring a small bites menu and one dollar off all drinks. If you’re dining with kiddos, there’s a child’s menu as well. The best sellers from the menu are the fish ’n chips, with fresh fish from Barnacle Bill’s in Lincoln City, shrimp scampi, pepperoni pizza, Philly cheesesteak sandwich and the Strawberry Pecan Salad.
The double galley kitchen features an espresso machine for making various gourmet coffees, and outside is a wood-fired pizza oven. Assorted desserts are made in-house and vary daily.
In the lounge, you will find a full bar, bottled beers and two local beers on tap: Beachcrest Brewing and Depoe Bay Brewing.
A popular feature at the Eatery, especially in the summer, is the ice cream shop. Featuring a dozen or more flavors of Oregon-made Cascade Glacier and Umpqua ice creams, you can opt for waffle or sugar cones, or have your creamy indulgence in a dish. Real milkshakes in customizable flavors and drinks like root beer floats are a popular choice.
In addition to the varied menu offerings, Fishing Rock is a hub for live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, featuring local artists. The venue has an indoor stage and a summer plan for an outdoor concert to celebrate its one-year anniversary.
The lounge also hosts specially broadcast sporting events, and has a game room with video lottery and Keno. Community events are important to Long, and the restaurant hosts We Make Art painting parties about once a month. A recent popular one focused on painting your pet. The Eatery also hosted a fundraising event for the local Marine Corps. Look for special events promoted on social media and in the community calendars. The Eatery also sells artwork and jewelry from local artist Susan Walkingstick Booth, so you can pick up a present for yourself or someone else while you’re dining.
Fishing Rock Eatery & Lounge is located at 3245 N. Hwy. 101 in Depoe Bay and is open from 11:30 am to 9 pm Thursdays through Mondays. The hours will be expanded for the spring and summer. For more information, go to fishingrockeatery.com.
