Toledo artists bloom for First Weekend

February’s First Weekend celebration will see galleries and studios throughout Toledo throw open their doors to the public this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3 and 4.

Michael Gibbons’ Signature Gallery will be showcasing “Grace’s Garden,” a 15”x 18” oil painted in 1996 as a testament to regional flora, prominently displaying the beauty of the Oregon Coast’s iconic rhododendrons.

See this work and more originals at Michael Gibbons’ Signature Gallery, open from noon to 4 pm both days at 140 NE Alder Street. For more information, go to michaelgibbonsart.net or call 541-336-2797.

Across the street, the Yaquina River Museum of Art will be displaying select paintings from its permanent collection. New art will also be offered in the museum’s gift shop from well-known local artist Marion Moir, known for her advocacy and teaching within the arts community as well as her iconic watercolors of life on the Oregon Coast. Also on display are the hand-tooled wooden Celtic carvings of Rusty Brown.

The Yaquina River Museum of Art, located at 151 NE Alder Street, will be open from noon to 4 pm both days. For more information, go to www.yaquinarivermuseumofart.org  or call 541-336-1907.

On Main Street, Crow’s Nest Gallery & Studio will feature the works of more than 20 artists, including pieces by ceramist and mosaic tile artist Val Bolen. Bolen’s art is the harbinger of spring in the gallery’s space as nature still tries to shake off the cold of winter.

Crow’s Nest Gallery & Studio is located at 305 N. Main Street and open from 10 am to 5 pm both days.
