Toledo makes a trunk call

To help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation and the 28th year of Toledo’s status as a “TreeCity USA,” the Toledo Public Library will host a free Arbor Day event at the library this Saturday, April 23.

Outdoor activities include tree related arts and crafts and a paper making station. The Oregon Coast Art Bus will be joining the celebration and offering four stations including leaf prints, animal track stencils and nature rubbing plates. Participants are invited to make tree-themed assemblage art with the Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre and Center for the Arts booth.

Children’s Librarian Miss Denyse will be leading kids on a story book trail, set up outside the library. A local tree expert will share information about local trees. Special guest Smokey Bear, the beloved forest icon, will be at the event to welcome and greet everyone. Finally, birthday cake will be served and pull-string piñatas with lots of candy will be available for kids.

Tree seedlings will be handed out to the first 50 participants.

The event runs from 1 to 4 pm. The Toledo Public Library is located at 173 NW 7th Street. For more information, go to cityoftoledo.org/library.
