Skateparks in Oregon are known as some of the country's best, due largely in part to the efforts of Dreamland Skateparks of Lincoln City, which has built parks all over the world, including one of the crown jewels right in their hometown.

And Dreamland has been ready and waiting to help create a world-class park for residents and visitors to Pacific City, who have helped fund the project by attending events like the annual Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic.

At long last, project partners Nestucca Valley Community Alliance, Moment Surf Company and the Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic are announcing that construction of Phase 1 of the Pacific City Skatepark can finally begin.

Groundbreaking on the project is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12, with plans for Phase 1 to be completed and ready for skateboards before early summer.

The project is the culmination of a decade-long dream and fundraising effort to provide more recreational opportunities for the area’s youth.

“Thankfully, Dreamland was available and willing to begin the skatepark project with the funds we have available now,” said Lisa Macy-Baker, NVCA board president. “Although the skatepark is only a part of our masterplan, and we are far from fully funded, we’re so excited to start seeing some visible progress.”

The park is to be built near Cape Kiwanda, on a site that currently serves as a fund-raising overflow parking lot. It is part of the master plan to develop a community park that includes the skate park, a playground, an interpretive center and hiking trails. More than $20,000 was raised in 2021 from parking donations. NVCA was also recently awarded a Tillamook County Transient Lodging Facilities Grant for $74,000, which will help to provide utilities and infrastructure to the park.

The NVCA is a non-profit formed to bring education opportunities and recreation venues to the community. For more information, go to www.nestucca.org or the Nestucca Valley Alliance Facebook page or call 503-816-9516.
