More or lasso a perfect show

Science and comedy will collide this Sunday, June 14, when whip- and joke-cracking performer Leapin' Louie brings his one-man science circus to the Newport Performing Arts Center.

“Fly Through Time with Leapin' Louie” combines science education, comedy, circus arts and audience participation in a family-friendly performance designed to make biodiversity and evolution come alive.

Louie uses an unusual collection of tools to tell the story of life on Earth. Along the way, audiences can expect whip cracking, juggling, spinning lassos, puppetry and plenty of physical comedy. Young audience members might even find themselves invited on stage to join the fun.

Part cowboy show and part science lesson, the 90-minute performance explores how species evolved and diversified over time while keeping audiences entertained with stunts and circus skills. The result is an experience that appeals equally to kids, parents and anyone curious about what happens when a biodiversity presentation collides with a Wild West variety show.

Sunday's performance begins at 2 pm at the Newport Performing Arts Center, located at 777 W Olive Street. Admission is $5 for kids aged 17 and younger and $23 to $28 for adults. For more information, go to coastarts.org or call 541-265-2787.
