A balanced approach to exercise

Learn movements that will help you age gracefully and remain steady on your feet in a new six-week class starting on Friday, May 26, at the Newport Recreation Center.

Help make your daily activities easier and have more energy living life by understanding the fundamentals of balance and body movement.

“Balance is a very complex and multi-dimensional aspect of physical fitness,” Fitness Specialist Brenda Luntzel said. “Everyone should incorporate balance into an exercise program. It is more about connecting the brain with the body functions. A very fascinating and elaborate neuromotor system.”

Instructor Rebecca Sinnhuber will teach strategies to help students improve balance, postural stability and range of motion.

Each 60-minute class has a 20-minute education segment and 40-minute exercise segment. Come dressed with flat shoes and comfortable clothing.

Sinnhuber is the newest fitness instructor at the center. She has a BS in Kinesiology so she has a great understanding on how the body moves and how exercises should be done correctly.

She is a NASM certified Personal Trainer and has seven years’ experience in the fitness industry that includes being a cardiac rehab exercise specialist, a dance and fitness group exercise instructor and an entertainer.

Classes begin at 1 pm each Friday through June 30. The Newport Recreation Center is located 225 SE Avery Street. For more information, go to newportoregon.gov or call 541-574-5863.
